The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a spectacular Polar Bear Kaleidoscope design made by Canadian artist Calder Moore. The intricate kaleidoscope designs that have captivated people of all ages for almost two centuries can now be seen on a stunning silver proof coin! The first in the Royal Canadian Mint's three-coin Canadiana Kaleidoscope series, featuring famous Canadian icons, is this colorized proof. The reverse design is a kaleidoscopic scene with polar bear forms repeating throughout the intricate design. The reflected features of a kaleidoscope are captured by translucent, overlapping colors in tones of blue, green, and red. Susanna Blunt, a Canadian artist, sculpted Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's obverse portrait, which is surrounded by a field etched with a fine linear kaleidoscope pattern. The series' coins will be struck from 1 Troy oz. of.9999 pure silver and have a remarkable diameter of 60 mm, making them the RCM's thinnest coins ever. The polar bear is featured on the inaugural issue, which has a mintage limit of 7,500 coins.
